Time Sharing

17 days until January 1, 2000
383 days until January 1, 2001

The timeshare mania is spreading. After years of enduring a bad reputation, timesharing is now accepted and the concept is spreading into new arenas.

Time Share properties have been around for quite a while. The timeshare vacation home industry is becoming increasingly popular, attracting large reputable companies like Disney and Marriott.

Recent publicity highlighted how the timeshare concept is being applied to private executive aircraft. Other stories have reported a new application: time share automobiles in urban environments. With the growth of virtual offices and "hoteling," we may see timeshared office space before long.

With timeshare, owners have flexibility. They enjoy the benefits of ownership and the availability of resources they want and need, yet avoid the burdens of ownership like maintenance and permanence. For the virtual life desired by the nomadic business venturists of the future, these arrangements are ideal. These adventurous businesspeople will sell their talent, create new businesses, and engage in free-form brokering of goods and services in constantly-moving dynamic global relationships.

Some people will use only one or a few timeshare opportunities to better manage their time and resources. One group will use Neighborhood Electric Vehicles (NEV) in their local urban environment, then use timeshare automobiles to move outside their immediate communities. We may even see timesharing of the NEVs.

A certain segment of our population will avoid being tied down in any way. They'll become modern-day versions of the traveling peddlers, but on a global scale. With electronic communications, they'll be able to work from virtually anywhere, bringing together buyers and sellers who might otherwise never have connected.

An increasing number of savvy people are looking much more seriously at how they will design their future. Realizing that they have more control over their destiny, they are taking deliberate steps to learn about trends, prepare for new opportunities, and move in new directions. You can do a self-check at http://www.herman.net/quiz Everyone taking this free self-assessment will receive a series of e-mailed advisories helping them learn to "futurethink."
