Companies Enjoying Positive Results by Adding E-mail Response
Companies that previously accepted resumes only by snail mail have recently discovered that accepting resumes by e-mail can be a tremendous advantage in the recruiting process. After making excuses for the lack of response to snail mail addresses only: "The market is slow. Nobody wants to work," etc., some companies are getting the message and including e-mail addresses for response.
There are two factors we see stimulating this trend: First, the "new" employees have a level of computer literacy and Internet mobility that demands recognition by corporate recruiters. They want to be able to respond in cyberspace. But even more importantly, when employees are seeking employment NOW, there is an immediacy about the process. Nobody wants to wait weeks for a response anymore. The world is moving too fast. They want to be employed within a week or two—not wait that length of time for a response.
In the recruiting process, it’s time for employers to wake up to who the new employees are, what interests them and what they’re really looking for. Allowing them to respond via e-mail is just one, small piece of the Big Picture.
