Gioia and Herman to Head Human Capital Research Institute

Futurists Joyce Gioia and Roger Herman to Head Human Capital Research Institute

Washington D.C. - July 20, 2005 - The Human Capital Institute announced today that the Workforce Stability Institute, a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, will merge with the Human Capital Institute to create a new enterprise with expanded resources and a broader reach across the new business science of human capital management: the Human Capital Research Institute.

The Workforce Stability Institute was founded in 1993 by internationally recognized futurists and authors Joyce Gioia and Roger Herman, with a mission similar to that of HCI: to provide new research and educational opportunities targeted to global workforce issues.

Ms. Gioia and Mr. Herman have agreed to serve as co-Executive Directors of the new Human Capital Research Institute, with a mandate to initiate forward-looking research into key human capital issues. HCRI is funded through corporate, private and government grants, and research sponsorships.

"We are delighted that Joyce Gioia and Roger Herman will be at the helm of this exceptional new human capital research group," said Allan Schweyer, HCI's Executive Director. "This blending of experiences, acuities and relationships means that organizations in all sectors of the economy can look forward to new, inspired strategies and applications to help them more effectively manage talent."

The research institute will engage in studies about human capital trends, how workers and employers are responding to trends, and societal issues that relate to workforce and workplace concerns. While most of the early research will focus on North American environments, international studies are on the institute's mid-range agenda.

The Herman Group is a firm of consulting futurists concentrating on workforce and workplace trends and their implications. Emphasis is placed on employee selection and retention as critical strategies. Included in the firm are researchers, professional speakers, authors, and consultants. The Herman Group is based in Greensboro, NC, with affiliates in Sao Paulo, Melbourne, Hong Kong, and Port Louis, Mauritius.
